SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, November 25, 2021 – The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization will hold the 2021 Seoul Lantern Festival for 10 days from November 26th (Fri) to December 5th (Sun). 83 lanterns will be installed about 700m in Cheongyecheon to embroider winter nights with light.
The Seoul Lantern Festival, which marks its 13th anniversary this year, is a representative festival in Seoul that lights up the Cheonggyecheon area with colorful light sculptures based on Hanji lanterns every November. This year’s theme is “the forest of healing, Seoul colored with the light.” It means lighting lanterns of hope with a message of comfort and support for citizens as a forest of light in the city center.
83 pieces from 56 sets under the theme of the forest of healing, such as Secret Door and Alice in Wonderland, will be displayed. Winners of the Hanji Lantern Competition hosted by the Seoul Tourism Foundation in September will also be displayed.
The festival will be held in strict compliance with quarantine rules. A quarantine gate will be installed at the entrance of the exhibition section after arranging personnel in charge of quarantine.

Gil Gi-yeon, head of the Seoul Tourism Organization, said, “This year’s Seoul Lantern Festival was planned under the theme of delivering messages of comfort and support to citizens of the pandemic era,” adding, “I hope the Seoul Lantern Festival will be a good memory for citizens.”
