In celebration of the third anniversary and 100 days until the opening of the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) will be hosting an international event for exchanging architectural cultures with cities around the world and seek various solutions for urban issues. Under the theme of “Crossroads, Building the Resilient City,” the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism 2021 will be held for 46 days from Thu, Sep. 16 to Sun, Oct. 31.
The SMG held the D-100 countdown ceremony for a successful opening of the Seoul Biennale on Tue, Jun. 8 at the Seoul Hall of Urbanism & Architecture. More than 30 figures, including Mayor Oh Se-hoon, General Director Dominique Perrault of the Seoul Biennale, and ambassadors of 10 countries, attended the ceremony in person and over 190 participating artists of the Seoul Biennale joined online.
Mayor Oh Se-hoon signed the MOU for the improvement in cultural exchanges in the field of architecture between Seoul and six countries (i.e. France, Holland, Swiss, Italy, Australia, UK) that have been in a close cooperative relationship with the SMG through the Seoul Biennale.
Before the ceremony, there was a street parade in the morning. The performance teams paraded a total of five courses to promote the Seoul Biennale. Bubble and mime performances were staged at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Sewoon Plaza, and Euljiro Plaza.
Moreover, the SMG has plans to hold this year’s Seoul Biennale throughout downtown, including the Seoul Hall of Urbanism & Architecture, DDP and Sewoon Plaza, exhibiting a variety of exhibition content.
