SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, December 20, 2021 – Seoul has again named the world’s best city for MICE for the seventh consecutive year. The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) said that Global Traveler, a US-based travel magazine selected Seoul as the Best MICE City of 2021.

Seoul has won the award for seven consecutive years since 2015, reaffirming its international standing as the global top MICE city.

In April, amid the pandemic, the SMG revealed the “Comprehensive Plan for Transition to Hybrid MICE,” a plan to combine cutting-edge technologies with the MICE industry. The city government invested KRW 2.1 billion in 117 MICE events through major supportive measures, such as containment and insurance assistance for safer events, selection and support of exhibitions by development stage, and support for hybrid international conferences using cutting-edge technologies.

In addition, the city deployed experts in law, accounting, labor, and psychology at the Seoul Tourism & MICE Agency Support Center to provide free counseling services to MICE agencies and workers in trouble.

Seoul Convention Bureau, the STO’s organization dedicated to the MICE industry, established Virtual Seoul, a virtual platform for 3D conferences, and won three awards from international MICE institutions.

“I am delighted that the international business tourists are recognizing Seoul as the best MICE city in the world,” said Choi Kyung-Ju, Director General of Tourism & Sports Bureau. “By closing working with the industry, be it through the supporting committee or policy forums, we are developing a future strategy to reinvigorate the MICE industry. We will spare no effort to hasten the recovery of the industry and further promote the image of a safe “K-MICE Seoul.”
