The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) is hosting the Seoul International Garden Show (SIGS) from May 14 to May 20 at Malli-dong Plaza, Son Keechung Sports Park, and Jungnim-dong to promote Seoul as a city of forests and gardens as well as to contribute to the development of the garden industry and the revitalization of the local economy.
SIGS 2020 was planned to be held last October, but due to the spread of COVID-19, only the virtual conference and online garden culture programs were held while the official events were postponed to May this year.
Gardens that were prepared by the SMG since last year will be finally open to the public. Citizens who have accumulated fatigue caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic will have a chance to experience the urban garden and restore the emotional stability through this year’s SIGS. The event will be held safely in various formats considering the pandemic situation; the number of visitors will be limited and online participation will be encouraged using a mobile guidebook (via QR).
Gardens created by invited world-renowned garden designers as well as show gardens selected by last year’s international garden contest will be revealed. Other various themed gardens include student gardens and neighborhood gardens in which students, citizens and Korean designers participated in creating.
Moreover, garden culture programs which can be enjoyed not only by Seoul citizens but also by international participants are prepared as well.
Garden industry exhibition, which is expected to attract a multitude of visitors, will be held online for citizens to safely enjoy the Korean garden trend at a glance and to invigorate the garden industry.
