The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) held Seoul Global City Competitiveness Forum 2021 under the theme of “Unleash Seoul’s Attractiveness” from 2 PM to 5:30 PM on Wed. Nov. 24.

To recover Seoul’s global urban competitiveness that has sunk over the past decade, renowned scholars from Korea and overseas gathered to accurately diagnose the current status of Seoul and shared in-depth discussions on the developmental strategies that Seoul needs to adopt. During the announcement of Seoul Vision 2030 last September, the SMG revealed its aspiration to become one of the top five global cities together with its goal of strengthening its urban global competitiveness as its top priority.

The forum began with a keynote speech by American economist Tyler Cowen, followed by Session 1: Elevating City Competitiveness (presentations and special discussions of global speakers), and Session 2: Developing City Attractiveness (presentations by domestic speakers and a round table talk).

The first session was held online to present a way for Seoul to move towards, and speakers from Korea and overseas shared a venue to discuss the tasks to strengthen the urban competitiveness of Seoul, whereas the second session was designed to seek strategies for the capital city of Seoul to leap forward as an attractive global city from a domestic perspective.

This forum was held at the SMG’s Seoul ON studio in Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), and live streamed to reach a worldwide audience via the SMG’s official YouTube channel, attracting many viewers.
