The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) has unveiled the creative “Art Ttareungi” makeover of its Ttareungi public bike share created through citizens’ artistic imagination. The “Moa Moa” design submitted by artist Kibbeum Park was selected by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture (SFAC) as the winner of the Ttareungi design contest called “The Art of Dreams” by Porsche Korea. “Art Ttareungi” was funded by the Porsche Do Dream campaign, a public art project by Porsche Korea as one of its social contribution campaigns.

While maintaining the standard size and brand logo of Ttareungi, designs inspired by Korean patchwork were applied to the body, top tube, downtube, and fork. The wheels were changed to neon yellow color to make them easy to be seen in the dark.

The beautiful Korean patchwork made by connecting various pieces of cloth contains the meaning of overcoming the pandemic and returning back to normalcy with effort by all citizens. Its design was finally completed with the feedbacks of a designer of Porsche headquarters in Germany and a professor of Hongik University Graduate School of Design Contents.

A total of 365 Art Ttareungi bikes will be presented with the symbolic meaning of giving energy and pleasure to daily life 365 days a year. It can be rented just like any ordinary Ttareungi bike from docks near Seoul City Hall, Gwanghwamun, and Samseong Station (Line 2) starting Tue, Nov. 16.

The SFAC will reveal the Art Ttareungi bikes and hold a test drive session at Cheonggyecheon Plaza at 10 AM on Mon, Nov. 15 where citizens will be able to see and ride the newly transformed Ttareungi bikes.

The SFAC and Porsche Korea signed an MOU in February last year, and they have been holding social campaigns to support citizens’ cultural entertainment as well as for the city’s arts and culture ecosystem. They plan to continue to present various art projects in the future through continuous collaboration.
