Congratulatory Message at the Opening Ceremony of the Seoul Global Center Building
Date: June 21, 2013
Venue: Seoul Global Center
Hello everyone. I am Park Won Soon, the mayor of Seoul.
It is a great pleasure for Seoul, an international city with 400,000 foreigners and multicultural families, to have this opportunity to establish the Seoul Global Center Building.
I would like to thank everyone here today for making time to participate in such a meaningful event, especially lawmaker Jasmine Lee, Spanish Ambassador to Korea Luis Arias Romero, Pakistan Ambassador to Korea Shaukat Ali Mukadam, Thailand’s Ambassador to Korea Phasana Puthikampol, AMCHAM President Amy Jackson, distinguished guests from home and abroad, and representatives of foreign communities.
The Seoul Global Center Building will integrate numerous global institutions, which were previously scattered throughout Seoul, into one building. This is expected to create a significant synergy effect among these institutions. The construction started in 2008 and was completed earlier this year, and many international organizations have already moved into the building; among them are the Seoul Global Center, Korea Immigration Service, Seoul International Dispute Resolution Center, Citynet, and the Office for Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Embassy of Spain. And more international organizations are scheduled to make the move.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has put tremendous effort into attracting international organizations. With the opening of the Seoul Global Center Building, I hope more international agencies open up shop here, the heart of Seoul. The growing influx of creative and talented individuals will definitely reinforce Seoul’s competitiveness.
I strongly believe that, while sharing different experiences, information, and cultures, the variety of domestic and international organizations gathered here will facilitate the globalization of Seoul. Moreover, it is expected to be of great help in nurturing the high value-added services industry, a new growth engine in Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government will make every effort to transform Seoul into an international city with all necessary comforts and conveniences for locals and foreigners to walk side by side, and an ideal place for global business, at a time when the number of foreigners and multicultural families in Seoul is expected to soon reach one million.
