  • Water Seoul 2021—Cities for Climate Resilience

  • Environment & Energy news SMG 11792

The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) is holding the international Water Seoul 2021 event to discuss water issues at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) for three days from Thu, Oct. 7 to Sat, Oct. 9, 2021.

This event comprises three programs—an international conference, a water industry job fair, and a talk concert—to share the SMG’s water environmental policies with global citizens and support youth employment in the water industry. The three programs will be held on online and offline channels, and live streamed via YouTube.

The theme of this event is “Cities for Climate Resilience.” Water has always been a part of urban construction and development. Most megacities around the world have been providing healthy water environment and pleasant resting space to citizens based on their rich water resources and systematic waterworks and sewage systems.

However, rapid urbanization and accelerated climate change have resulted in sudden changes in water environments, such as due to the unprecedented heavy rain, flood, and heat wave. This is an issue that concerns all major cities around the globe.

In line with this trend, the SMG is holding Water Seoul 2021 with a goal to promote “sustainable coexistence between cities and water.” This event is aimed at searching for solutions to urban water issues by strengthening solidarity and cooperation among cities across the world, and at the same time, revitalizing youth employment in the water industry, which has become stagnant due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Event details can be found on the official website (https://forum.seoul.go.kr/water), where you can sign up for the citizen participation program, join the live chat, and more.
