  • Mayor's News SMG 2078

On September 21, Mayor Park Won Soon attended the “2014 Car-Free Seoul” event, held along the 1.1km strip of road between the Gwanghwamun three-way intersection and City Hall.

“Car-Free Seoul” is an annual event (in Sept.-Oct.) that began in 2007, where only pedestrians and bikers are permitted to enter a designated area in Seoul, such as the area around Gwanghwamun, for one day. Various participatory programs for citizens are held on the streets that are usually full of cars.

Mayor Park observed the “1004 Baduk Games” competition held at Sejong-ro Park, where 100 professional baduk players, including the “Car-Free Seoul” Honorary Ambassador Lee Chang-ho (level 9), Lee Se-dol (level 9), and Kim Hyo-jeong (level 2), played against 1004 citizens at the same time.

Also, Mayor Park attended the car-shaped balloon flying event, which signaled the beginning of the “Walking Parade” in front of the Government Complex in Gwanghwamun, and walked with about 300 citizens to Daehanmun, in front of Seoul City Hall.
