Korean regional elections will be held on June 4, 2014.
Since Seoul Mayor Park Won Soon has registered as a candidate for the upcoming elections, the Vice Mayor Ⅰ for Administrative Affairs of Seoul will serve as acting mayor until June 4.
According to the Local Autonomy Act, the deputy head of the local government acts as the incumbent head starting from the day the head registers as an electoral candidate. Come election day, the head of the local government once again resumes his or her post to run for re-election while retaining his or her title.
Under this act, Mayor Park’s duties as the mayor of Seoul will stop on May 15 with his registration as a candidate and will resume at 00:00 on June 5, after the election day.
