Tongin Market took its current form as a marketplace for selling and buying goods as the need for a market increased in line with a growing population after the Korean War. Of approximately 70 stores located in this market, the largest number engages in selling food, such as grocery stores, followed by stores carrying industrial products like clothes and bags. Since January 2012, Tongin Market has been running “Lunch Box Café Tong” for customers to select and purchase foods from various stores around the market and create their own lunch boxes using vouchers. After lunch, try paying a visit to Seochon, a village of Korean traditional houses (hanok), located to the west of Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Location: 18, Jahamun-ro 15-gil, Jongno-gu (Walk 10 minutes from Exit 2 of Gyeongbokgung Station, Line 3)
