The city of Seoul last year recorded its lowest smoking rate on record and the city plans to work on bringing it down even more.
According to a survey released by the city on Monday, which is ‘World No Tobacco Day,’ among men in Seoul, the smoking rate was 28.9% the first time it’s ever been found to be under 30 percent.
The smoking rate among women was 15.5% which is also the lowest on record.
The city has decided to become a partner in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use, a framework that has about 50 cities around the world as members.
With a grant from Bloomberg Seoul will work with the World Health Organization to regulate cigarette advertisements that encourage smoking.
