SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, August 4, 2018 – If you are afraid to go out during the heatwave that hit a record-high temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, why do not you go to one of the underground shopping centers in Seoul?

The Seoul Facilities Corporation has recently released the “Seoul’s Underground Spots BEST 5” and published its detailed information guide at its website (www.sisul.or.kr).

They include a relaxing space at Hoehyeon Underground Shopping Center; a relaxing area with design benches at Jamsil Underground Plaza; Jungle Theme Zone at Euljiro Underground Shopping Center; Meeting Plaza at Gangnam Underground Shopping Center; and a shelter zone at Gangnam Terminal Underground Shopping Center.

Among them, a relaxing space at Hoehyeon Underground Shopping Center that connects to the subway station line 4 gets popular since it offers free WiFi and mobile phone charging devices. In addition, its underground shopping center’s various shops, selling from phonograph records (also known as LP records in Korea) and second-hand cameras and audios to clothing, allow visitors to enjoy shopping while avoiding from the sweltering heat.

Another popular place is the Gangnam Underground Shopping Center. It has completed its renovation earlier this year, and was reborn as a pleasant shopping space. There is a multi-purpose cultural and relaxing space within the shopping center, providing free WiFi, mobile phone charging devices, lockers for customers, and book-reading facility.

The Seoul Facilities Corporation has a plan to hold flea markets “on the ground,” which provide opportunities for the citizens to buy unique products that can be bought at underground shopping centers. It will also publish a magazine that introduces shops located at the underground shopping centers and distributes it for free to the citizens, and implement diverse promotional activities to activate underground shopping centers.
