SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, APRIL 30, 2021 – The Seoul Metropolitan Government operates two cafes called “Memory Cafe”. “Memory Cafe” is a cafe where senior citizens with mild dementia participate as baristas since 2018 jointly implemented by the city and Handok for the dementia prevention campaign.
The “Memory Cafe” is designed to convey the message that the elderly with dementia can play a role as members of society where they are able to live their daily lives but also engage in economic activities.
The basic rule in the memory cafe is to naturally understand even if the menu is different from what you originally ordered.
In order to prevent COVID-19, it will be operated in the form of a fixed cafe in the dementia centers in Geumcheon-gu and Seodaemun-gu.
Park Yumi, Director-General of Citizens’ Health Bureau, said “’Memory Café’ in the dementia centers will be operated, followed by quarantine rules, as a venue for communication between elderly people with dementia and ordinary citizens to improve citizens’ awareness of dementia”
