From July 1 to July 31, Seoul Metropolitan Government is hosting 『Seoul Summer Sale 2014』, the major shopping events for foreign tourists, across the city. During the Summer Sale, international visitors will receive 5~70% discounts from 1,208 participating businesses, including department stores, duty-free shops and large shopping malls.
K-Pop idol group ‘BEAST’ was appointed to be the Honorary Ambassadors ambassador for this year’s Summer Sale, rendering the Sale more appealing to young Asian females in their 20~30s, who are proven to be major customers of the shopping event. There will be various online and off line events throughout the summer sale period, where tourists can participate and have fun and get practical benefits.
Seoul Summer Sale is a major shopping festival of the city for foreign visitors; 1,208 shops, which covers wide areas including, shopping, beauty & health, entertainment, food and beverage, money exchange, accommodation and transportation, guarantee joyful and smart shopping for tourists.

The Welcome brochures containing discount cards and information on participating businesses will be available at the promotion booth at Incheon International Airport (Counter #44, Reception Counter), Summer Sale Promotion Booth in DDP, and other Tourism Information Center in downtowns. An online event with ‘BEAST’, the Honorary Ambassador of Seoul Summer Sale 2014, is promoted on the website www.seoulsale.com throughout the sale period. Foreign tourists can participate in the event and draw for handsome prizes including round-trip ticket to Seoul, a new BEAST CD with the Honorary Ambassador signature, and Etude House cosmetic gift box.
At the online event, “Take a Trip to Seoul with BEAST”, foreign tourist can choose the shopping destination and category and which member of the BEAST they want to go with. Each choice will be linked to the site with detailed information on the shops of the interest area, offering useful tips for the tourist.
At the 2014 Seoul Summer Sale promotion booth at the Incheon International Airport and DDP, there will be Dart event and Giveaway events, raising the profile of the 2014 sale among foreign tourists and providing opportunity to try out popular Korean cosmetic products for free.
Major domestic cosmetic brands, such as Etude House, The Face Shop, and Dr. Pharm offers free gifts as prizes for the event. It is expected that the event will make a trip to Seoul more satisfactory, as the brands are hugely popular to young Asian women in their 20~30s, the major customer target. In addition, the events will offer effective PR opportunities for the participating brands.
More notably, in order to attract more Chinese tourists to the Seoul Summer Sale festival, the Eunryeon card was designated as a main sponsor for the 2014 Seoul Summer Sale. Tourists who have the Eunryeon card can receive ‘Banana Milk’ at the promotion booth in the Incheon International Airport. At the same time, there is Special Offer event for those who purchased products with Eunryeon card and present the receipt at the PR booth in the DDP.
What makes the 2014 Seoul Summer Sale more special is various discount offering for performance and exhibition tickets including ‘Pyeongreung’ of Namsangol Hanok Village, SICAF 2014 exhibition, and ‘My Love from the Star’ exhibition, allowing tourists to enjoy diverse culture contents of Seoul as well as shopping.
In collaborated marketing with SBS and SICAF (Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival), SMG also plans to offer discounts for the entrance fees at ‘My Love from the Star’ DDP exhibition, which is now most popular Hallyu contents in China, and SICAF 2014 exhibition at Myeong-dong.
A SMG official said. “Seoul Summer Sale is a great opportunity to build the City’s images as a major shopping destination by providing shopping discounts for foreign tourists and make it more satisfactory to shop in Seoul. In addition, Seoul city government is keen on promoting the participating businesses during the Sale period, so that the festival will lead to boost in their sales.”
