The Seoul Street Arts Festival started out as the ‘Hi Seoul Festival’ in 2003 and was established as a street arts festival in 2013. In 2016, the event was renamed to ‘Seoul Street Arts Festival’ and was held each year between September and October. As the largest street art festival in Korea, the free event showcases remarkable performances that are arranged to captivate the audience with popular aspects as well as artistry at various locations in downtown Seoul including Seoul Plaza, Cheonggye Plaza, Gwanghwamun Square, Cheonggyecheon-ro, Deoksugung Stone Wall Path and Seoul Museum of Art. This year’s festival, in particular, was significant in that it featured newly constructed urban regeneration spaces such as Seoullo 7017 and Oil Tank Culture Park.
