SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, December 7, 2020 – The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization announced that Seoul was selected as the “Best International Meeting Destination” at the 2020 Business Traveler Awards.
The Business Traveler Awards, a representative award in the MICE (Meeting, Incentive tour, Convention, and Exhibition) and business tourism sector, has picked the outstanding organizations in 53 areas including flight, airport, and hotel since 1988. The selection was made by Business Traveler, a luxury business travel magazine covering North America and Europe.
This achievement is significantly meaningful to Seoul as it is the seventh winning since the city was selected as the World’s Best International Meeting Destination for six years in a row from 2012 to 2017. As there was no winner from 2018 to 2019, it can be interpreted that Seoul has reaffirmed its stance as the best MICE city with earning worldwide attention.
Last July, Seoul was selected as the world’s no. three international meeting destination at the “International Meetings Statistics Report” annually published by the Union of International Association (UIA) for five consecutive years from 2015 to 2019. Last November, Seoul received the ICCA BEST Marketing Award, known as the “Oscar” of MICE, given by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization have actively led the post-COVID-19 MICE industry and supported the MICE sector struggling with the COVID-19 crisis. It launched the “Seoul MICE Industry’s Overcoming the Crisis Project” and provided COVID-19 preventive measures, insurance programs, 360-degree & 3D “Virtual Seoul” platform, and field survey programs.
Joo Yong-tae, Director-General of Tourism and Sports at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, “Seoul is the city of “Bleisure,” where people can enjoy both business and leisure activities. It is a significant outcome that Seoul has been selected as the world’s best international meeting destination by the readers of the world’s prestigious tourism magazine.” “We will keep striving to make Seoul an iconic international meeting venue as well as a safe and smart MICE city that people want to visit first and foremost when COVID-19 is over. To do so, we will add its exemplary COVID-19 responsive efforts and active MICE growth policy.”
