□ The Seoul Metropolitan Government will give support to “coin karaoke rooms,” which are currently banned from hosting gatherings, with the Special Support Fund for Preventive Measures amounting to KRW 1 million. This is intended to support the livelihoods of small business owners who are experiencing difficulties with rent, personnel expenses, and other fixed expenditures due to the ban on gatherings. The application and payment processes are expected to be complete by the end of July.
□ On May 22 (Fri.), the SMG gave an administrative order banning gatherings in 617 arcade rooms, claw machine rooms, and coin karaoke rooms, out of which 569 are coin karaoke rooms. The city has continued to investigate the observance of this order in cooperation with autonomous districts.
□ With the increasing number of business owners expressing livelihood difficulties due to the ban on gatherings that has lasted for more than six weeks, the SMG decided to provide the Special Support Fund for Preventive Measures for owners who have sacrificed their businesses for the public.
□ The “Special Support Fund for Preventive Measures” will be paid to small business owners of coin karaoke rooms with less than five full-time employees and an average sale of less than KRW 3 billion that have observed the administrative ban on gatherings as of May 22. This support fund will be taken out of the Disaster Management Fund, which will be reassigned to the twenty-five autonomous districts for prompt payment.
□ The “Special Support Fund for Preventive Measures of Coin Karaoke Rooms” will be provided to those experiencing livelihood difficulties due to the administrative ban on gatherings by the SMG. Applicants can apply for additional support through the “Seoul Survival Fund for Independent Business Owners,” which is offered to independent business owners experiencing rapid drops in sales due to the COVID-19 crisis. However, the two-coin karaoke rooms that opened while the administrative ban on gatherings was in effect and were exposed and charged will be excluded from receiving the support funds.
□ Applications for the “Special Support Fund for Preventive Measures” will be received starting July 8 (Wed.) in the autonomous districts in which the coin karaoke rooms are located. Payment of the support fund will be made to applicants’ accounts by July 31 (Fri.). Applicants must visit the appropriate window of the designated autonomous district to submit the required documents.
□ SMG Economy and Employment Planning Officer Shin Jong-wu stated, “We cannot loosen the reinforcement of everyday prevention measures due to continuous break outs of infections in the Metropolitan area. We decided to support small businesses with the Special Support Fund for Preventive Measures in order to help business owners who are experiencing hardships from the prolonged ban on gatherings.”
