Similar to Remembrance Day in Europe (November 11), Memorial Day in the US (last Monday of May), and Anzac Day in Australia (April 25), the Republic of Korea observes its national Memorial Day on June 6 as a day for appreciation, remembrance and public recognition of patriots and veterans, commemorating the allegiance and sacrificed lives of fallen heroes and military personnel who fought for the country.

Seoul National Cemetery, located in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, is a 1.4 million-square-meter resting ground for the nation’s fallen heroes and martyrs who lost their lives fighting for the country. Memorial Day is observed here annually at Seoul National Cemetery, and major public figures, such as the mayor of Seoul, visit to usher in the new year or after being appointed.

Wondering how to observe Memorial Day this year? What about paying your respects to patriots and veterans at Seoul National Cemetery while also enjoying the beautiful natural landscape at the same time?
