  • Culture & Tourism news SMG 1439

The Seoul Metropolitan Library (Director-General Lee Jung-soo) has received a donation of 896 foreign books from the Beautiful Foundation. The books are worth around KRW 15 million and written in 12 languages including Nepali, Lao, Malaysian, Indonesian, and Filipino. Any citizen will be allowed to read the books freely.

The donation was made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the foundation of Prof. Song Ha-won’s Wings of Books Fund and the death of the late Song Ha-won, the former professor of the College of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Yonsei University.

It is expected that the nearly 900 foreign books that were donated will enable immigrants with little opportunity to enjoy culture, foreigners living in Korea, and children from multicultural families to enjoy culture in their own language and also provide other citizens with an opportunity to understand and study the multicultural society with an open heart through reading foreign books.

After registering the donated books as part of its collection, the Seoul Metropolitan Library will stock the Nanum Munhwa Collection corner on the first floor with the books to let everyone freely read.

For more information on the donation, contact the Seoul Metropolitan Library at +82-2-2133-0241.
