Seoul Metropolitan Government won a FutureGov award – which is presented to exemplary cases of technological development in the government sector in Asia-Pacific during the Asia-Pacific FutureGov awards.
At the FutureGov Awards 2013 held in Phuket, Thailand on October 25, the Urban Planning Information System of Seoul (UPIS) won in the North Asia sector.
FutureGov awards have been presented to exemplary cases of public institutions since 2005 by Asia-Pacific FutureGov, the largest informatization community in the public sector in Asia-Pacific.
Said awards have been given to South Korea’s Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS), South Korea’s Ministry of Environment, the National Library Board of Singapore, the E-Government National Centre of Brunei, etc. In 2007, Seoul Metropolitan Government won the award in the Online Participation sector.
Seoul Metropolitan Government established UPIS, a GPS-based internal administrative system, in 2006. It is a service that provides systematic support for the urban planning business through creative management and analysis of the relevant information. Seoul Metropolitan Government has operated the Seoul Urban Planning Portal (http://urban.seoul.go.kr) an Internet service for people since February 2011.
The Seoul Urban Planning Portal provides integrated urban planning information in real time. It lets people check urban planning information very conveniently by means of maps and graphics.
The award presented to Seoul Metropolitan Government this time is in recognition of its transparent and efficient provision of urban planning information.
