Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it would hold the musical Idohansan at an outdoor stage beginning August 15.

The program is part of the project of telling tourists about the 2,000-year history of Seoul, the capital of two dynasties and the current republic.

Titled the Project of Storytelling-based Invigoration of Five Leading Tourist Attractions in Seoul (Hangang (River), Seoul City Wall, Dongdaemun, Sejong-daero, and Hanseong Baekje), the program tries to shed light on the history of Seoul as the capital of the Hanseong Baekje Dynasty for 493 years during the 678-year Baekje Period 2000 years ago and attract tourists to the historic sites of Baekje.

The musical Idohansan will run during weekends and on public holidays, for a total of 35 occasions between August 15 and November 23 as the first program to be held at the outdoor stage outside Hanseong Baekje Museum within Olympic Park in Songpa-gu. Special performances will also be held during the Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival (October 3 ~ 6) and the opening ceremony for the Seoul Lantern Festival (November 1).

Idohansan is based on the historical fact of King Geunchogo’s relocation of the capital to Hanseong (Seoul) during the 4th century. The musical portrays the king’s dream of building a country where people of diverse ethnicities will coexist together through reconciliation and harmony, along with people’s wish for a bright future.

One notable thing about the musical is the local residents’ participation in the playing of percussion instruments and martial arts. Visitors will also be allowed to take part in the performance. Participating in the performance and parading in a traditional costume will create a lasting memory in the minds of many people.
