SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, August 29, 2019 – The new Discover Seoul Pass that allows foreign tourists to freely use Seoul subways will be launched for the first time in Korea from this coming December. The newly functioned Discover Seoul Pass can be used on Subway Line 1 to Line 9, excepting the section the KORAIL operates, for free without limitation within the validity period.
Previously, the users had to put money on the Discover Seoul Pass before use as much as they need when they use it as a transportation card.
The new Discovery Seoul Pass will be available as either the one-day pass or three-day pass; and either mobile pass or physical card pass. The price has not been decided yet.
For the launch of the new Discover Seoul Pass, Seoul Metro, the Seoul Tourism Organization, the Seoul neo-Smartcard Company, and Eastar Jet signed an agreement for cooperation on August 28: Seoul Metro operates subways; the Seoul Tourism Organization explores related partnership services; the Seoul neo-Smartcard Company develops mobile card products and card readers; and Eastar Jet sells the Pass when selling flight tickets.
After Seoul Metro analyse the business feasibility of the new Discover Seoul Pass during the test period, it will diversify its validity dates, such as the one-day, two-day, three-day or five-day pass, and expand the available sections to all subway stations in cooperation with relevant organizations.
It will also provide customer information in advance and develop mobile applications in order to reduce the inconveniences foreign tourists may experience when using subways in Seoul.
The new Discovery Seoul Pass can be easily purchased around 400 spots such as tourist information centers in Seoul, convenience stores at the Incheon International Airport, Hana Bank and major accommodations and online tourist information websites.
