Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon was one of the 1,700 participants in the “2010 Kimchi-Sharing Love” event held at the Seoul Plaza on Nov. 16.

The annual kimchi charity event featured all the employees of the Korea Yakult Corporation and its sales staff, as well as the Cheong Wa Dae “Pureun Nuri Children’s Corp.”

The mayor, in his speech of encouragement, stressed that prepared kimchi is not simply spiced-up cabbage but a “food of love” prepared with warmth and care for senior citizens without a family and underprivileged children. Therefore, the mayor added, the kimchi is meant to warm up the chilly winter months.

Volunteers at the 10th “Kimchi-Sharing Love” event made the staple Korean side dish with a total of 57,200 whole cabbages. The home-delivery sales staff of Korea Yakult began delivering the kimchi to a total of 13,000 homes on Nov. 17.
