First held in 2009, the Seoul Lantern Festival has become a popular annual festival in the city with both locals and visitors alike enjoying the late autumn evenings at Cheonggyecheon Stream in the glow of the festival’s colorful paper lanterns that stretch for 1.2 km from Cheonggye Plaza. Held this year under the title “Lightened Hangang River, where history flows,” a variety of stories from the river will be told through the many lanterns at the festival, and visitors will have the opportunity to launch their own floating wish lantern in the stream and put up their own wish lanterns under Gwanggyo Bridge in Cheonggyecheon.
