    SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, March 6th, 2018 – The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will create less than five model apartment complexes in the city to draw up a basic model for the so called “Seoul-type apartment remodeling” project.

    It is a project that provides public administrative and financial support to improve living conditions of apartment buildings or houses that are more than 15 years old, refraining from demolishing all of buildings for an overall reconstruction.

    Through this project, the city government is committed to enhancing the sustainability of residences and also expanding public spaces and facilities, such as parking lots, daycare centers, and centers of senior residents, to the local community.

    According to the city government, this remodeling project as a part of urban regeneration is a feasible alternative to the reconstruction that would require longer time and more money. Unlike the reconstruction, remodeling apartments do not need to be designated by the government, so it might take three or four years shorter than the reconstruction. However, its safety check-up is carefully and importantly inspected, so there are no worries about safety.

    After completing the pilot project, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will adjust and improve the remodeling support plan, and establish the guidelines for the distribution.
