  • Seoul City Wall Week 2013

    Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it would be holding the Seoul City Wall Week 2013 event from October 25 until October 30 in Gwanghwamun Square and places close to Seoul City Wall as part of efforts to publicize the castle walls and have them registered as UNESCO World Heritage.

    The event schedule is as follows:

    October 26 (Sat.)
    [Hands-on experience of things related to Seoul City Wall]
    About 2,000 people, including young ones, will hold an event to pray for the registration of the castle walls as UNESCO World Heritage. The uniforms that used to be worn by castle guards will be displayed.

    [Event celebrating the 600th anniversary of Seoul City Wall]
    A performance will be held at a stage set up at Gwanghwamun Square.

    [Walking along Seoul City Wall]
    About 900 people will walk the Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun) – Sukcheongmun Gate – Heunginjimun Gate (Dongdaemun) – Doneuimun Gate, and then the 18 km-long path along the castle walls. Feel the pulse of the people who built the walls and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surroundings.

    * 1. Full course (10 hours): Gwanghwamun Square – Inwangsan – Baegaksan (Bugaksan) – Namsan – Gwanghwamun Square

    2. Short courses (4 hours)
    (1) Course 1 (Changeuimun – Inwangsan – Gwanghwamun Square)
    (2) Course 2 (Waryong Park – Milbawi Observatory – Gwanghwamun Square)
    (3) Course 3 (Naksan Performance Place – Heunginjimun – Gwanghwamun Square)
    (4) Course 4 (Namsan Palgakjeong Pavillion – Baekbeom Square – Gwanghwamun Square)

    [Seoul City Wall-related Storytelling Contest]
    The event is aimed at drawing attention to Seoul City Wall and publicizing their value as cultural heritage through storytelling about subjects related to the castle walls. Those interested are invited to upload their stories to the Seoul City Wall Week official homepage.

    [Seoul City Wall Villages Festival]
    The event is held in four villages close to Seoul City Wall, i.e., Buam-dong (close to Baegaksan), Seochon-dong (close to Inwangsan), Hoehyeon-dong (close to Namsan), and Bukjeong-dong, Jangsu-dong, Iwha-dong (close to Naksan). The event includes a concert, a quiz contest on Seoul City Wall, a village marketplace, and a photo display.
