Hanyangdoseong, or the Seoul City Wall, covers not only the fortress that surrounded the old downtown area of Seoul, but the entire capital area surrounded by the fortress. Even today, Seoul City Wall blends well with the skyscrapers of the city and has become the symbol of Seoul. The Hanyangdoseong Trail is divided into four courses: Bugaksan, Naksan, Namsan, and Inwangsan. Among these four courses, Course 4, Inwangsan, starts at Sungnyemun Gate, passes the Souimun and Donuimun sites, and crosses the 338-meter Inwangsan Mountain to reach Changuimun Gate. Since the most damage had been caused to the fortress in this section, walking along the fortress is more difficult than with the other courses, and a detour must be made to Jeongdong.
