SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, August 29, 2018 — From Sep 1st (Sat) to 2nd (Sun), the Seoul Metropolitan Government holds Seoul Friendship Festival 2018 in urban areas including Seoul Plaza, Mugyo Street and Cheonggyecheon Street. It is a global festival organized by Seoul where visitors can enjoy the cultures of Seoul’s sister/friend cities and many other different countries.
The World City Parade starts at Mugyo Street on 15:00 pm of Sep 1st (Sat), followed by Cheonggye Plaza and Seoul Plaza. Led by a Korean traditional marching band Chuitadae, national flag bearers from 70 countries and performance teams from Seoul’s 15 sister/friend cities will run a parade in their traditional costumes.
This year, Seoul’s 15 sister/friend cities and embassies from 70 countries will participate in the festival. The festival consists of ▴ cultural performance of 15 global cities, ▴ food festival of 57 countries, ▴ world city tourism festival of 53 countries, ▴ PR exhibition of 11 international organizations and NGOs and ▴ global marriage cultural festival.
First of all, the world cultural performance will be held at Seoul Plaza with LA cheerleading team, Beijing martial art and face mask changing team, New Zealand Maori dancers and African Mozambique) traditional dancers. The performance groups of sister/friend cities come from Asia, Europe, America, Oceania and Africa. These performances help this cultural festival as the globally-renowned one.
The world city food festival, which gains a lot of popularity every year, will be held on Mugyo Street and Cheonggyecheon Street. Visitors can enjoy the world’s popular foods from 57 countries including the foods that are familiar to Koreans like Indian Tandoori chicken and Turkish Kebap, also the foods which are not that familiar yet like Empanada in South America and Swiss Rosti.
For the city tourism festival, 53 countries set up booths at Seoul Plaza where they exhibit and sell various traditional items of all different countries in the world. They also introduce their attractive tourism contents. The global marriage cultural festival will provide performance, exhibition, participatory programs and events under the theme of each country’s different marriage culture.
