The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) is creating 120 “spring flower streets” throughout the city so that citizens weary of COVID-19 can feel happiness seeing flowers and trees in daily life.
These spring flower streets, the creation of which will begin in full swing starting in March, will contain 42,000 hanging pots with spring flowers, such as daffodil, daisy, lupinus and more as well as 487 themed flower gardens.
The SMG has plans to color not only the alleys in front of people’s houses, major downtown areas and main roads, but also places where comfort and hope are needed, including Itaewon, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), COVID-19 treatment hospitals and screening clinics with colorful flowers.
This will vitalize the floral and landscaping industries that have seen diminished sales as college admission and graduation ceremonies were canceled due to COVID-19.
For reference, the SMG planted 971,000 flowers on 120 streets (156 km, 61,957 m2) and planted 620 kg of flower seeds on the riverside to make flower streets throughout Seoul last year.
