  • ○ Artists based in Seoul and Beijing are set to jointly stage the “Korea-China Art Exchange Exhibition” at the Citizen Gallery of Seoul Citizens Hall for 19 days from Tuesday, October 15 to Saturday, November 15, 2013.

▷ The upcoming exhibition, a prestigious arts and cultural exchange project, is being hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, and organized by the Seoul Foundation of Arts and Culture (CEO: Cho Seon-hee) and the China Cultural Center (Director: Sa Seo-rim) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the sisterhood relationship between Seoul and Beijing. Ten young visual artists of the two great capital cities have joined hands to exhibit their works of art side by side in the hope that the exhibition will provide them with significant opportunities to deepen their mutual understanding of the arts and cultural backgrounds of their respective cities and to forge mutually beneficial relationships with each other.

    ○ The participating artists have already had a chance to visit each other’s respective cities and appreciate their time-honored cultural heritages through visits to not only museums, art galleries and artists’ villages but also to markets and traditional streets, enabling them to better understand each other.

    ○ The exhibition will feature diverse genres of visual art by the ten artists, including paintings, installation art and video art works that depict their city street landscapes and reveal the inspiration they draw from city life. Seoul and Beijing will each be represented by five artists: Young-Sup Kim, Rho Eun-joo, Park Hyesoo, SHIM HYE LIN and An Gyeong jin (currently resident artists at the Seoul Art Space) from Seoul; and Fu Xiaodong, Yang Guangnan, Dong Dawei, Shi Wanwan and Xin Yunpeng from Beijing.

    ○ In April, Mayor Park Won Soon paid a visit to Beijing as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the sisterhood relationship between Seoul and Beijing. The Vice Mayor of Beijing is scheduled to visit Seoul towards the end of October, and will drop by the exhibition during his stay in the capital.

    ○ “The Exhibition of Arts Exchange between Korean and China” currently being held at Seoul Citizens Hall is open to the public free of charge.
