The Seoul Arts Center officially opened to the public in 1988 as a representative arts space built for the residents of Seoul. It offers world-class facilities, including indoor spaces that accommodate all of the arts, such as the Opera House, Music Hall, and art galleries, as well as outdoor spaces, such as outdoor squares, an outdoor stage, and the World Music Fountain. The Opera House, the central facility, is designed to be in the shape of a gat (traditional Korean hat) to embody the spirit of the classic Korean scholars–the core of Korean culture–and the Music Hall is designed to be fan-shaped.
