  • Seoul Accepts Submissions of Incorrect Signboard Text

  • Culture & Tourism news SMG 585
The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) is setting out to modify incorrect translations of signboard text in an effort to prepare for international tourists visiting Seoul after COVID-19. As part of these efforts, the SMG is mobilizing its international inspector group as well as implementing a report system for the general public to submit incorrect signboard translations.

Anyone—Seoul citizens, non-Korean residents living in Seoul, and tourists—can report incorrect signboards found anywhere in Seoul. Submissions are accepted via NAVER Form (http://naver.me/5IFLPkAW) for 5 types of signboards and must include a photo with details such as location. The SMG will accept submissions from May 17 to June 15, and give out KRW 1 million worth of Seoul gift certificates (KRW 10,000 gift certificate per case) to approved submissions. The SMG initiated its international inspector group in 2013, and the group will focus on 10 specific areas of major tourist attractions this year.

Experts will screen submissions and evaluate the errors so that the SMG can urgently replace them.

The SMG has been annually tracking down erroneous foreign language signs that do not meet the requirement of foreign language sign standards to mitigate the inconvenience of international tourists and provide high-quality tourism services.
