If you walk along the Yeonnam-dong section of the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, you can find Yeonnam-dong’s Semo-gil, a triangular section of alleyways where the end of the park meets Gajwa Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line. As one of Seoul’s representative low-rise residential areas, it was selected as a target location for the Seoul Alleyway Regeneration Project. In efforts to preserve their original appearance while also ameliorating the alleyway environments, the old streets have been improved by replacing old streetlamps with smart CCTV streetlamps, repairing old stairs, installing emergency fire extinguishing equipment, and more. Though deceivingly quiet, Yeonnam-dong’s Semo-gil offers a warm and welcoming appearance where traces of life along with spaces boasting personality such as wine shops, leather workshops, and galleries are hidden in every nook and cranny.
