  • Recruitment of the 8th Seoul Foreign Student Volunteer and Global Mentor Group

    The Seoul Foreign Student Volunteer and Global Mentor Group is a volunteer group comprised of international students from around the globe who participate in volunteer activities inside and outside of Seoul as members of society. Participants will use their specialties, such as the ability to speak foreign languages, to voluntarily teach children in Seoul, in mountainous regions, and on islands, and offer support for various cultural events in Seoul.

    Overview of Recruitment and Activities

    • Application period: April 8, 2020-6:00 p.m. on April 15, 2020
      ※ Only applications received within the application period will be reviewed for recruitment
    • Participants: 33 individuals
    • Qualifications
      • – Individuals currently attending a university in Seoul (taking undergraduate, graduate, or foreign exchange courses)
      • – Individuals holding a student visa (D-2) that is valid up to December 31, 2020
      • – Individual who is able to teach a foreign language (English, Chinese, etc.) and the culture of his/her homeland to elementary school students
      • – Individuals who can communicate in Korean (preference given to holders of TOPIK)
    • Activity period: April-December 31, 2020
    • Main activities
      • – Global Mentor Academy, Mentor & Mentee Partnership Ceremony (1 session each) ※ Completed online
      • – Seoul Volunteer Group Orientation and visit to City Hall (1 session)
      • – Global mentoring twice a week (50 min. per session), 48 sessions for 6 months (May-November)
        : Online foreign language study and culture classes for elementary school students in Seoul (Jung-gu, Jungnang), in mountainous regions, and on islands (Imjado Island, Gyodongdo Island, Baengnyeongdo Island, Pyeongchang)
        ※ Use of the KT Online Video Mentoring System “Dream School” (http://www.ktdreamschool.org)
        The system does not support mac OS. Laptops will be loaned to mentors who use macOS.
      • – Volunteer activities for foreign students in Seoul and volunteer mentoring activities in various regions (May-November, minimum 5 sessions)
        ※ Number of volunteer activities and schedules will be announced at orientation
    • Support details
      • – Up to KRW 2 million of the 「KT (Korea Telecom) Global Mentoring」 scholarship (activity cost for mentors)
      • • Additional incentives (scholarships) for outstanding volunteers
      • – Issuance of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Volunteer Certificate, activity certificate, KT activity certificate, and KT Creative Innovation Scholarship Award certificate
    • Documents for submission
      • – (Required) 1. Application Form 1 <Excel), Application Form 2 (Word >, 2. Curriculum or global mentoring 3. Alien Registration Card (front, back, valid up to December 30, 2020 ) 4. Proof of enrollment
      • – (Optional) TOPIK certificate, documents showing proof of volunteer work and activities abroad
        ※ Limited to individuals to whom the items are applicable
    • Submission method: Submit via e-mail with the Application Form (Word) and documents of proof in JPG or PDG format
    • E-mail for submission: global_intern@seoul.go.kr (submission through qq.com, 163.com not possible)

    ♣ Selection and Main Schedule

    • Document Review
      • – Standards for selection: Overall judgment of experience and determination to volunteer, Korean skills, mentoring plan, nationality
      • – Number of students for recruitment: Selection of up to twice the number set for recruitment
      • – Announcement of results: 6:00 p.m. on April 20, 2020 (Mon.); applicants chosen in the first stage will be notified individually (via e-mail and text message)
    • Interviews: 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on April 22, 2020 (Wed.)
      • Evaluation: Online interview (group interviews will be conducted using Zoom)
      • • Applicants chosen in the first stage will be notified of the interview method separately
    • Final announcement of chosen applicants: 6:00 p.m. on April 24, 2020 (Fri.)
      • Final applicants will be notified individually via text message and e-mail

    • The majority of offline programs will take place on Fridays or Saturdays. Offline programs may be substituted with online programs. Attendance is mandatory for programs on the fixed schedule, and the schedule is subject to change.
