The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) plans to exhibit three billboards in celebration of this year’s 76th National Liberation Day. The first message that encouraged public interest in Dokdo Island was displayed on Mon, Jul. 26, and the second message will be newly displayed on the Seoul Metropolitan Library façade on Mon, Aug. 9.
The billboard will feature the message, “Extraordinary history was made by ordinary citizens. Korean citizens will continue to pave the future,” along with a photo of a military uniform of the Korean Liberation Army.
The image of the military uniform is the only extant uniform of a Korean Liberation Army soldier in Korea, and the display is incredibly meaningful as this very military uniform was first discovered in the old Seoul City Hall building (currently the Seoul Metropolitan Library).
In addition to the billboard, the August issue of the SMG’s monthly webzine publication will feature an article titled “Seoul, Embodying the Significance of Liberation” to comfort citizens who are weary in the midst of level 4 social distancing and to remind the public of the meaning of National Liberation Day through online channels. On Fri, Aug. 13, the musical group Quartet & will reveal a special performance video on Seoul Citizens Hall channel via YouTube and NAVER TV, which will feature the national anthem Aegukga sung by people throughout history.
