The so-called “Kim Young-ran Act” (Anti-Corruption and Conflicts of Interest Act) will be enacted in Seoul, with even stricter and stronger regulations than the original proposed draft. Last year, Seoul Metropolitan Government was ranked first in terms of government integrity; but that’s not enough for us. We will continue to strive to become the most honest and efficient local government and metropolis.
The “Kim Young-ran Act” aims to prevent bribery, corruption, and conflicts of interest in government offices. While the law has been under discussion at the National Assembly for over one year already, since Seoul Metropolitan Government introduced it as part of an innovative plan to improve public offices, the city is now enacting it.
This innovative measure to clean up public offices is possibly the best system in the world. What we need to do now is put it into practice effectively. In terms of government integrity, Seoul Metropolitan Government will do its best to meet the expectations of the citizens and act as a role model in setting the standard for other public organizations. It was not an easy decision, so please send us any encouragement and advice you may have.
