I visited workers all around Seoul.
I listened to the vivid stories of their everyday lives.
Voices loud and high,
Voices choked with tears,
Voices filled with worry
Rather than focusing on our differences,
if we try to find similarities and communicate among ourselves,
we will all change for the better.
Seoul citizens who disagree
and Seoul citizens who agree
are all still citizens of Seoul.
All day, I walked around
the historic sites of Seosomun, Yakhyeon Catholic Church, Seoul Station,
and Namdaemun Market.
When walking, I see what people’s lives are really like.
I see things I wouldn’t have seen while passing by in a car.
I get to see the details of the lives of our people.
“You cannot extinguish a fire from far away;
A close neighbor is better than a distant relative.” – From Myeongsim Bogam (Ancient Book of Ethics for Children) –
I will care for all Seoul citizens like a close neighbor.
For all citizens of Seoul, I will be a “neighborly” mayor.
