Seoul-Tokyo Cooperation Exchange
[Mayor Park Won Soon’s Hope Journal 519]
I met with Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe at Seoul City Hall and promised to strengthen cooperation between our two cities. This is the first time in 18 years that the governor of Tokyo has made an official visit to Seoul since the former Governor Yukio Aoshima came here in 1996.
We shared information on emergency response measures in order to more effectively deal with various issues and emergencies, such as earthquakes, aging buildings, subway terrorist attacks, and epidemics such as avian flu. We also put our heads together to look for ways to handle air pollution in Northeast Asia, and also to attract tourists. In order to effectively deal with all of these issues, Seoul and Tokyo decided to strengthen cooperation and exchange personnel for training purposes.
When the relationship between two countries is strained, such exchanges and cooperation between cities and citizens are a good way to build a bond of peace and coexistence.
