The other day, I read an article about how many Seoulites dream of traveling but end up staying seated in front of the TV set at home. That article made me sad.
However, on second thoughts, you don’t have to go to a faraway place to experience new things. Right within this city, there are numerous opportunities to enjoy great culture and art. You can even pitch a tent at the Seoul Plaza close to the Seoul City Hall. And a cultural vacances event is being held tonight, from 6:00 PM until 3:00AM, at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
We at Seoul Metropolitan Government are preparing diverse events for fall – the season for enjoying pleasantly crispy weather. Throughout September and October, diverse performances will be held in Namsangol Hanok Village (including a special program at 2:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays between September 1 and October 27) and Unhyeongung Palace (including a special program at 3:00 PM on Sundays from September 1 to October 27). The special programs will provide visitors with an opportunity to enjoy unique dances and music played on traditional Korean musical instruments.
Seoul Grand Park in Gwacheon will be the site of the Grand Fall Festival in Animal Kingdom program, which is composed of four themes, animals, insects, plants, and music, between September 22 and October 21. The Theme Garden in front of the Seoul Zoo displays 32,000 roses of 292 varieties and some 5,000 chrysanthemums. The Botanical Garden displays 300 fleshy plants and miniature gardens. It is also holding a miniature painting exhibition about the species of wildlife you are likely to meet along Korea’s mountain trails.
An insect-themed street festival is being held until October 14 at the entrance to Seoul Grand Park. Among the insects featured at the festival were rare insects, such as dynastid beetles, scorpions, tarantulas, and 35 kinds of arthropods. Wherever you go in the park, your ears will enjoy beautiful melodies played by a string quartet.
Please get yourself out of the house and enjoy these events. Event information is provided at the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Home Page. Make this your most pleasant and fruitful season.
