There have been Korean administrative terms that sound repressive or leave an impression of overpowering governmental power. We at Seoul Metropolitan Government have decided to replace them with more democratic, friendlier terms in consultation with the relevant bodies.
Some of them have been used for so long that they may sound natural to many people. Still, it takes courage to do what is right. We will play a leading role in the development of the national language in a constructive manner befitting a modern democratic society. That is what we are supposed to do.
