  • Improvement in Bus Stop
[Mayor Park Won Soon’s Hope Journal 193]

Many people have asked Seoul Metropolitan Government to improve the situation with regard to bus stops in Sadang-dong and Gangnam Intersection in the direction of Gyeonggi-do. In the evening, more than 20,000 people gather near Sadang Station to wait for their bus ride home.

We will take a drastic measure to improve the situation for people’s convenience. Spacious arcade-type platforms will be installed by July 15. Bus stops will be divided depending on the destination. For people taking a red bus bound for Gwacheon near Sadang Station or transferring to subway at Sadang Station, bus stop locations will be readjusted.

The bus stops in the area are for buses for 26 different destinations, including 12 for Suwon and Yongin. Besides, more than 30,000 commuters transfer to subway or get on another bus here on an average day. The situation is worse on a rainy day.

There used to be seven bus stops near Sadang Station Exit 4. Considering the large number of people taking red buses, the bus stop for No. 7790, 7800, 7780, and 7770 will be relocated to a more spacious area behind Exit. 4. The bus stops for the remaining 22 numbers will be allocated in three zones taking into account the number of passengers and in a manner that will minimize pedestrians’ inconvenience.

Three additional spacious (4.2m wide) platforms will be installed near Sadang Station for buses bound for Gwacheon. LED lightings will be installed on the ground to indicate where people should wait for a bus. People using these buses live outside of Seoul but work in Seoul. Thus, I will regard them as semi-Seoul citizens. We will continue to listen to their complaints and improve things for them.
