Mayor Park Won Soon encouraging staff members preparing to visit their hometowns for the Lunar New Year holiday
Are you enjoying the Lunar New Year’s holiday? I hear that many citizens have left for their hometowns.
I am sure you have already arrived in the bosom of your hometown after a difficult journey, almost certainly including traffic jams, and have held your parents’ hands and looked at the bleak winter rice paddies in a long time.
A while ago, I heard the expression ‘living in Seoul’ in a play titled “The Wash.” The characters in the play experienced all kinds of difficulties living in Seoul. Due to fierce competition and restricted resources, the citizens of Seoul encounter many difficulties much of the time.
I hope that you have been able to eliminate all the stress caused by such a difficult life with the friendliness and generosity of your hometown and the warm hearts of your parents during the holidays, and have sufficiently recharged your batteries to return to your life in Seoul feeling refreshed.
In fact, my parents have already passed away and the old home in my hometown was deserted a long time ago. So my hometown lives on only in my heart.
Nevertheless, I feel warm and reassured when I think of my hometown and my parents. And my heart is already in my hometown. I wish all of you a comfortable trip home.
I also hope you will be happier in 2013.
