Mayor Park Meeting College Students Who Participated in the 2012 Summer Part-time Program

I have been asked on Twitter and Facebook whether the city administration has any internships or part-time jobs. It is my pleasure to say, “Yes.” The city administration and its 25 districts are hiring 2,199 college students during this winter vacation as part-time workers to help the students obtain work experiences while earning money for their tuition.

Qualified applicants include students of colleges and universities located in Seoul. Seoul residents attending college or university in other areas are also eligible. To apply for jobs offered by a district office, however, applicants must be registered residents of the district. The city administration is planning to hire 570 workers. If more students apply, a lottery will decide who gets accepted. 171 jobs or 30% are reserved for the following: those from the families protected by the National Basic Living Security Act, those from the next income bracket, registered disabled people, those from a family with three children or more, defectors from the North, multicultural family members and persons of national merit or children of such families.

Part-time students hired by the city administration will be assigned either to City Hall or to its affiliated offices. The employment is for five weeks from Thursday, January 10 to Thursday, February 7, 2013. Daily working hours equal five (except for one-hour lunch break), and the daily pay is ₩29,300 including lunch. I apologize that the pay is not as much as I would like to offer. The work assignment plans to reflect the applicants’ majors, qualifications and future careers so that the work experience will be helpful for their career choices.

The job application can only be completed on the city administration website (www.seoul.go.kr) between Tuesday, December 4 and Tuesday, December 11, 2012. The selection results will be announced on the website on Friday December 21. I will continue to do my best in the future to hire more students while trying to create more permanent jobs in the city government. Thank you.
