Ikseon-dong is a village in Jongno-gu adjacent to Changgyeonggung and Unhyeongung palaces to the north, Jongmyo to the east and Nakwon Music Mall and Insa-dong to the west. It is the third most famous hanok village in Seoul that is different from the hanok villages in Bukchon and Seochon. The houses are small and simple and built for the common people. Despite its central location, it has only recently begun to receive attention after a group of young artists got together to renovate the hanok buildings, turning them into cafes, restaurants and culture complexes. The village is most famous for the gallery cafes that exhibit modern art work inside a traditional hanok building.
