In December 2020, the Seoul Metropolitan Government installed I·SEOUL·U figures of Seoul’s brand in Gimpo International Airport, the gateway of the air to Seoul, and Nodeulseom Island, a growing complex cultural space. Additionally, the existing I·SEOUL·U installation in Yeouido Hangang Park was redesigned with a warm winter illustration in hopes of cheering up citizens who are exhausted from the prolonged COVID-19 crisis.
The SMG and Korea Airports Corporation collaborated to install Seoul brand figure at Gimpo International Airport to reinforce the image of the airport as the gateway of the air to Seoul and to greet all visitors coming to the capital city.
The figure of the city brand is located by the driveway into the domestic terminal. A figure of an airplane was placed inside the ‘ㆁ’ character to symbolize the airport, and writing that reads, “I SEOUL U,” and, “Gimpo International Airport, the gateway of the air to Seoul,” is printed on the base of the installation. The dimensions are 15m in length×2.5m in height×1.4m in width, being large enough to be noticed by citizens passing by from a distance.
Nodeulseom Island was renovated into a complex cultural space in 2019, functioning as a place where citizens can enjoy nature, music, and rest. In celebration of the 1-year anniversary of its new concept, the figure of the Seoul brand was recently installed to promote the area and function as a photo zone.
With the Hangang River in the background, the figure was installed on the west end Nodeulseom Island. To represent Nodeulseom Island, the logo of the island was inserted inside the ‘ㆁ’ character of the figure. The dimensions are 15m in length×2.5m in height×1.4m in width, large enough to be visible from inside the train of subway line that passes nearby.
Meanwhile, the I‧SEOUL‧U figure in Yeouido Hangang Park was redesigned with a cozy and warm illustration in hopes of cheering up citizens who are exhausted from the prolonged COVID-19 crisis.
The illustration was created through a collaboration with the artists of the, “Moment Series.” A snowing image of Seoul wraps the installation, which will be on exhibition until February 2021.
Moment Series is a Korean and French duo who turn the ordinary days we live into warm pieces of art with the motto, “Daily imagination, imagination daily.”
The Seoul brand’s I‧SEOUL‧U was created in 2015 by citizens. To promote a friendly image of the city and boost awareness surrounding the I‧SEOUL‧U brand, the first brand figure was installed in the Children’s Grand Park in 2015, followed by Yeouido Hangang Park, Seoul Plaza, World Cup Park, and other major attractions and organizations in Seoul, totaling 29 installations.
