The First Seoul Trail Walking Festival

Date November 15th, 2014 | Venue Seoul Trail Course 3

It is a great pleasure to see you all here today. I am the mayor of Seoul, Park Wonsoon. I would like to extend my sincere welcome to the citizens participating in the first Seoul Trail Walking Festival. Today, entire sections of Seoul Trail have finally been connected, going around the edge of Seoul. Seoul citizens now have the pleasant and beautiful Seoul Trail, following Jeju Olle Trail and Jirisan Dulle Trail.

Seoul Trail goes along famous mountains and streams for 157 km. When I first heard that number, I asked myself, “How long is 157 km?” It turns out that 157 km is the distance between Seoul and Daejeon. If you complete the full course of Seoul Trail, it’s like walking to Daejeon.

Even before the trail was fully connected, many people visited here. Some of them might be here today. I heard that a six-year-old boy named Lee Seulgi became brighter and braver while participating in all four Friendly Seoul Trail Walking events, walking hand-in-hand with his mom. Please give a warm round of applause for young Seulgi.

I also heard that the average age of the “100 people expedition” who walked the trail in advance was 54. They are gathering there with their orange caps on. How did you like the trail? Do you feel healthier? Shall we give ourselves a proud round of applause?

I dream and wish that the 10 million of Seoul citizens always live well and happy. What is the most important thing to be well and happy? The answer is health. You can never emphasize health enough. I think the best place to make our bodies and minds healed and healthier is the mountains in Seoul. In this sense, Seoul Trail can be a lifetime gym membership, making us healthier and happier through walking. Please enjoy this trail for the rest of your lives.

On Seoul Trail, you can be healthy, experiencing the diversity of nature, scenery, history, and cultures of Seoul. Its atmosphere and sights will be all different and colorful every season. Please look around every season, month, and week.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government will prepare a variety of programs such as walking events, forest experience, forest guides, and forest healing so you can visit the trail more often. Thank you for attending the first Seoul Trial Walking Festival. I hope you enjoy yourselves to the fullest, and stay healthy and happy.
