SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, December 9, 2019 – The Seoul Metropolitan Government said that it held an online vote from November 19 to 26 for global citizens to select the 2019 Best Seoul Policy.
A total of 11,872 foreigners participated in the vote conducted on the city government’s official foreign-language websites operated in six languages. Those from English-speaking countries accounted for 73 percent of the total participants.
According to the vote result, the Provision of Free Public Wi-Fi Policy (17%) that anyone can use anywhere in Seoul in 2022 is selected as the best policy. The second one providing free female sanitary pads (12%) won the UN Public Service Awards (UNPSA), followed by the Youth Guarantee policy (10%) that provides financial support for young citizens to start their careers while shaping the future.
Providing public Wi-Fi is the most popular policy among those in the entire language groups, while the Hangang Summer Festival and Seoul Bike(Ttareungi), gaining popularity among those from traditional Chinese-speaking countries, such as Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), and Japan.
12 candidate policies were selected by category, including investment, regeneration, environment, tourism, culture and welfare, among the policies that have been promoted through the city’s foreign-language websites.
