  • Gangnam-gu will hold the “Gangnam Festival” around the COEX in Samseong-dong for four days on October 3 ~ 6.

    The Gangnam Festival, which has taken root as the flagship festival in Gangnam, convenes as a consolidated program of the Gangnam Fashion Festival the most popular in the Gangnam-gu as well as International Peace Marathon and K-POP Concert under a single main theme.

    The Gangnam Festival is being organized under the theme “passion” and the slogan “Play the City,” meaning “Let’s Enjoy Gangnam.” Notably, this year’s festival will showcase advanced style in Gangnam while demonstrating the spirit of “Nobless oblige” based on the concept of fashion and donation.

    The International Peace Marathon will take place in Yeongdong-daero in front of Korea Electric Power Co.’s head office at 8 am on October 3. It will consist of a full course, a half-course, a 10-kilometer run, and a 5-kilometer health marathon. Runners will depart Yeongdong-daero, run along Yangjaecheon (Stream), Tancheon (Stream), and riverside of Hangang (River), and return to the starting point. Participants can enjoy beautiful eco-streams in Gangnam. Even if one is not a marathon fan, one will have a chance to go on a health picnic this fall in the company of one’s family members.

    The event will be attended by Gangnam-gu Goodwill Ambassadors Christina and Ha Il (Robert Holley). The event will give visitors a chance to enjoy street percussion performance by Rocker Persion and music performance by invited singers and enjoy for only 3,000 won the best-quality cuisine presented by nine renowned chefs from hotels and restaurants in the district, including the Ritz Carlton; thus adding to the fun the festival has to offer to participants.

    Participants will be given a “K BIRD T-shirt” made by a famous Korean apparel maker. K BIRD is the symbol of Gangnam, which boasts of a bird-friendly image among urbanites, and is expected to induce visitors to experience hallyu (Korea Wave or popular Korean pop culture) along the street of Gangnam. Since the K BIRD T-shirt will be unveiled for the first time through the International Peace Marathon, it will be an item worth having for foreigners who love hallyu.

    Notably, in a bid to allow the people to enjoy the marathon as a feast, this year’s event will give away prizes and memorabilia to 90 people according to their rankings by age group 20 people for those in the teenager category, 10 teams who participate as the largest organizational groups of participants, 3 teams as the largest family group of participants, and 2 senior-most participants, in addition to the 56 people who will be honored according to their individual rankings in the runs. Selected participants who display their unique styles on the day of the event by wearing outlandish costumes and makeup and submit photos after the event will be given certain souvenirs.

    Proceeds from the event will be donated to UNICEF and Community Chest of Korea to help suffering children in developing countries due to war and poverty as well as the underprivileged in the city.
