The Dongmyo Flea Market was formed when merchants started gathering there in the 1980s. Due to the creation of an antique sellers’ district in Janghanpyeong in June of 1983, stores selling secondhand goods started flocking there and the flea market remains in that exact area to this day. There are over a thousand shops selling various goods such as antiques, used furniture, household appliances, clocks, jewelry, pianos, cameras, various machines, old books, records, and tools. The flea market took on its present shape when merchants from the Hwanghak-dong Flea Market gathered there after losing their places of business to the 2003-2005 Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project.
